DANCE & THEATRE
Dorie has been teaching dance for over 35 years. Originally from the east coast, her love affair with dance began at the Hillside Studio in Long Island with her first dance teacher Ellen Cretti. Her arts education continued in South Florida at the Dance Academy of Deerfield Beach and the Dillard High School of Performing Arts, studying under Janet Mathie, Luanne Lavoy and Debbi Dee. In New York, she continued her education at STEPS, studying with Susie Taylor, Joe Lanteri and Michelle Assaf, but was primarily and soulfully inspired by the works of Douglas Caldwell. Dorie enjoyed travelling the world by sea performing as a featured dancer with Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines and on land, spent many years performing in professional regional theater as member of Actors Equity. In 2004, she opened Dance Arts Conservatory Center for the Performing Arts in Wellington, Florida with her husband Rocky Duvall. For nearly two decades they have provided powerful programming for the arts through their performing companies; “Wellington Ballet Theatre” a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization providing cultural enrichment through the art of classical dance and innovative performance, "Broadway Stars" a musical theater program in which students learn the art of performing Broadway musicals with professional directors, musical directors and choreographers, W.A.V.E. (Wellington Artists Vocal Ensemble) a vocal performance company showcasing young performers on local community stages and Momentum Dance Company. In recent years, she launched Duvall Arts, LLC, a company focused in partnering with local schools to provide Arts education and programming. In 2022, after relocating to the West Coast with her husband and three children, she now joins the dance faculty of Northern California Dance Conservatory under the directorships of Jen Bradford, Michael Levine and Maia Wilkins and also Elevation Dance Center with Sara Wardell. She is a professional member of the Actors Equity Association and Dance Educators of America. In addition to celebrating her work in the Arts, Dorie enjoys Tai Chi, is a licensed massage therapist specializing in Traditional Thai Massage, a yoga teacher RYT-200, and an absolutely passionate sourdough bread baker. She believes that each day is a gift and looks forward to serving her community and sharing her joy of life through her work.

Since 1998, Dorie has been providing Therapeutic Massage and Traditional Thai bodywork. She graduated with honors from the Florida College of Natural Health in Pompano, FL. completing their 900-hour program with specialized training in Advanced Soft Tissue Therapeutics and received recognition for ‘Golden Hands’ and ‘Team Player’ awards with distinguished achievement. She is a Certified Thai Massage Practitioner having earned a Teacher Training Degree in Nuad Bo-Rarn Thai Massage from the school of International Training Massage (ITM) in Chaing Mai, Thailand studying under Master Teacher Chongkol Settakorn in 2000. Her additional Thai training includes certification at the renowned Traditional Thai Massage at the Foundation of Moh Shivagakomarpaj Buntautuk Tradit, Hospital Northern Province (Traditional Medicine Hospital) in Chaing Mai, Thailand with Master Teacher ‘Sutat’. YOGA & TAI CHI
Dorie’s journey through professional dance, theater, and therapeutic massage led her to the practice of yoga, studying for over 17 years with teachers Patsy Finger, Linda Lazarus and Rob MacGregor. Wanting to bridge her knowledge of ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ with the emerging popularity of ‘Thai Yoga Massage’, she set out to understand how the two worlds connected, and in 2018 she earned her Yoga Teacher Training Certification with American Yoga, in Deerfield Beach, FL under the direction of Monica Schmidt, E-RYT 500. She continues her yoga journey, now as a teacher and practitioner, providing private and group classes focused in gentle yoga, Thai yoga partner stretching and children’s yoga. In 2019 she began to explore the teachings of Tai Chi to integrate the therapeutic movements into her body work offerings. She is certified through Yoga Alliance, as a RYT-200 and teacher certified through the Open The Door to Tai Chi method with Dianne Bailey. Her yoga and tai chi perspectives are powerfully rooted in teaching and healing and believes that regular practice is a primary key to living a beautiful, long, healthful life. Movement is medicine xo.
BREAD & SOURDOUGH
This bit here will be less of a bio, and more of a story.
I LOVE good bread. I always have. Since, childhood it has ALWAYS been my favorite thing. Travelling Europe, I was hooked, especially on the freshly baked loaves that we would find in Napoli. My husband and I would buy it by the kilo and spend the afternoon feasting on each torn slice with fresh garlic and olive oil. Years later, missing this richness in my life, I set on a mission to learn how to recreate that old-world, mouth-watering bread in my own kitchen. I inherited a beautiful starter from my dear friend in the Bay Area, and over the course of a decade dove into the world of time and temperature, and came to understand the process. In 2020 when the pandemic caused us to have to close the doors to our family business, my family looked to me one night at the dinner table, and smiling asked, "Momma, is it time to open the bakery?". And that was it. Duvall Artisan Bakery was born. Nowadays, I'm baking every week, and gratefully surrounded by the gorgeous, moist, open-crumb, nutrient dense, hand-crafted Artisan breads that I love. I LOVE the community of bakers that I am now a part of, a family that I connect with, with such natural ease. Sourdough Bread is an incredible art to experience. I'm grateful for it in my life, every day. You can find me affiliated as a member of the Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA) and as a long-time purveyor of The Fresh Loaf forum community.
